Clare Booth Luce Scholarship Program
Description of the Program
Siena University’s School of Science, through funding
from the Clare Boothe Luce Scholarship Program for
Women as administered by the Henry Luce Foundation,
Inc., is offering scholarships for undergraduate
students who identify as female planning to pursue graduate work
and careers in an underrepresented science field.
The Clare Boothe Luce Scholarship Program is a comprehensive
program for undergraduates majoring
in computer science, astrophysics, physics, or data science, who intend to
pursue post graduate studies leading to a Ph.D. in
these areas. The program provides funding for the Spring 2026 semester at Siena University.
Goals of the Program
- Emphasize throughout the academic community
the importance of female students who pursue careers
in one of the underrepresented science fields
- Enable students to gain experience and confidence
in their ability to do independent research
- Develop students' identifications with the scientific
community by encouraging them to attend professional
meetings and to present
their findings
Scholarship Amount
The Clare Boothe Luce Scholarship is a
scholarship up to $18,750 for
tuition, room & board, and fees.
Eligibility
To be eligible for the Luce Scholarship program, students
must meet the following requirements:
- Be a student who identifies as female who has earned between 48 and 87 credits
hours at the time of application
- Have a 3.2 GPA or higher in their major, as well as a
3.2 or higher overall GPA
- Be a declared major in computer science, data science, astrophysics or physics
- Demonstrate interest in graduate degree programs
- Complete a minimum of 12 credit hours in their major
- Currently enrolled in a course in the major
- Be a U.S. citizen
Application Process
Each applicant will be expected to complete the following by September 15th:
- Demonstrate an intention to attend graduate school
and to pursue an academic teaching and/or research
career
- Complete the program application form
- Submit a 400 word essay
- Provide names of two faculty members who can provide letters of recommendation
indicating the student's desire and potential to pursue a graduate
degree
- In addition, applicants may be asked to participate in
and interview with the award committee
Award winner will be announced in November.
